Salty sea dog

Dogs and boats don’t necessarily go that well together. Our dog, Rosie, is a Bedlington whippet. She is 11 years old and while she hates the experience of getting wet, this changes when she is on an open expanse of sandy beach when she will gladly run into the sea. This is not, however, her favourite activity. Her absolute favourite activity is sleeping. On the settee. At home.

So, for Rosie Trivial Pursuit while having the potential to take her closer to sandy beaches and the fun they offer, has the much greater likelihood of being cold, wet and interfering with her scheduled 23 hours of sleep each day. Her exposure to boating life has been gradual, while she has enjoyed lying on the deck in the sun, the moment Julia or I go to any other part of the boat she feels compelled to follow us with great angst if she is out of our company for too long.

The real paradox is that when it rains she loves it, we’re below deck and in one place. She’ll get on the settee berth, under a blanket and life is good again. I don’t think she quite qualifies as a salty seadog but then again, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
